This project needed the right speakers and we decided to go with our tried and tested favorite speaker combination.
We have used Audison and Eton speakers for many years as we have found these speakers stand up to the test of time and give the best in audio reproduction money can buy.
These speakers an also take a fair amount of punishment, giving fantastic sound at high volume a definate must for us!
We have replaced all the midrange speakers in the new demo car with Audison BMW specific speaker upgrades, these speakers fit exactly the same as the original BMW speakers and use the original factory wiring connectors to offer a no wire cut install.
The front tweeters were replaced with Hertz Mille Pro 25 tweeters, the original Audison tweeters work impeccably but we decided we needed the tweeters to be on show in this build, the Hertz soft dome tweeters produce fantastic crystal clear highs and don't distort in the slightest.
The underseat factory 6.5" woofers were so underrated we strugled to get any decent low end response, these needed to go and o they went straight in the bin!
The underseats were replaced with the fantastic Eton 8" woofer upgrades these give a fantastic low end mid bass response, these speakers are also a direct swap, and plug directly straight in!
Next was sound deadening, every speaker we fit we add sound deadening and the more the better, Sound deadening is key in making a great speaker sound, this works by changing the frequency in which a panel resonates, reducing road noise and keeping sound in.
Changing the original factory radio is not an option on any BMW that has the factory i drive system, the factory system is more than a radio, it controls many functions on the car, and generates all the sounds to do with indication, lights on, door open sounds, parking sensors the list goes on!
As our system is going fully amplified fully amplified, a decent input signal is required given how many channels we required we decided to use the fantastic Audison bit one processor.
the bit one processor allows us the de-equalize the signal from the original radio then fully time-align the system to the optimum listening position, after this we create a new equaliser curve, and set the correct crossover points.
The processor allows for 4 different sound configurations which can be selected on the DRC (Digital remote control), these 4 different settings allow us to have a central time aligned system and driver optimized setting there is also a bass intensive setting and a sound quality tune.
for the amplifiers we decided we needed something that packed the extra power we needed, and there was only one range that would the the right job for us. The Audison Voce series of amplifiers were the perfect go to amplifier option, these amplifiers descend from the sublime Audison Thesis range of amplifiers, these are renowned for being some of the best SQ amplifiers in the world.
we decided on using the Audison AV5.1K amplifier to control the front speakers and rear speakers and additional subwoofer, the underseat woofers are powered by the fantastic Audison quattro Voce amplifier.
We decided we needed an additional woofer driver for sub bass frequencies, we made an ultra compact woofer enclosure this is fitted with the JL ultra slimline 10" tw3, this woofer plays from 15hz to 100hz and compliments the sound produced with out overpowering the other speakers.
To get the subwoofer mounted in the right place we removed the rear seat and cut out behind the center armrest, this opened a port into the boot, the subwoofer box is sealed to this port and this then directs the bass into the cabin space and not the boot.
this in turn now has produced one of the best audio experiences you can achieve from the BMW e65 7 series, when it comes to getting the right sound in your BMWW we are only a phone call away!
